  1. There's nothing that says that you have to support your fiance ONLY through AA. There's no law that says you're unsupportive if you don't do things the way AA says they should be done. There are lots of people who stopped abusing alcohol without any help from AA, so it's not for everyone. So do things your way--you'll definitely feel a lot more sincere than if you try to fake it.

  3. I agree that AA is cultish. I recently stopped drinking and work as a therapist with ppl in recovery. I think this stuff makes the most sense http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMART_Recovery

  4. Thanks Sara. I've heard of SMART recovery but haven't done much research on it. Unfortunately, many rehab centers are stuck with the "traditional 12 step method." It makes me sad that with all the current research on brain function and addiction, addicts are still receiving treatment stuck in the 1940's.
